Why do we need more science in the Region?

The Regional Animal Welfare Center was founded in 2013 with the  support of the RSPCA with the aim to strengthen links between academia, stakeholders and competent authorities in the Balkan region in order to improve the implementation of legislation, standards and best practice in the field of Animal Welfare.

The most important role of RAWC is to provide scientific and technical advice to national bodies and to disseminate research findings and technical innovations.

The 1st Scientific Animal Welfare Conference of RAWC would like to gather the regional specialists and experts to exchange and share their views in order to promote animal welfare science in wider Balkan region.

We would like to give special attention to participation of young researchers from the region. Their active role will contribute towards establishing a network of animal welfare scientists and create opportunities to discuss recent advances in animal welfare science.

RAWC has a long tradition of organising regional workshops, training events and seminars.

In 2020 RAWC will launches a scientific conference with intention to be held every second year bringing the regional scientists and experts together to exchange and debate the regional topics and promote animal welfare through better science.

We call on our members, as well as scientists and particularly young scholars, to participate in this conference by presenting a paper, oral or poster, and taking an active role in our network. The main theme of the congress is “Better science for better animal welfare”.

Sincerely,

For the Organizing Committee

Dr. Evangelia Sossidou
